Earlier this week a certain online community came to my attention. A community by the name of NoFap. NoFap is an online support group whose members challenge themselves to abstain from masturbation and the consumption of porn for certain lengths of time; these lengths of time can vary from a week to a year (it depends on the individual). While I certainly will not force myself to abstain from the natural animal behavior of cranking out loads this community does intrigue me. I certainly love to challenge myself and stumbling across NoFap has forced to realize something.
I am a 26 year old man, I grew up hand-in-hand with the internet. When I started masturbating at 13 years old I was doing it with visual stimulation from the internet. The visual stimulation in question started as simple nude images from Google. As I aged the stimulation grew until it reached hardcore porn videos. As a teenager I found ways to pirate those videos (Limewire), when I discovered tube sites this piracy became much easier. As I reached young adulthood my genre of choice fell further into depravity, until a switch went off in my brain. The porn became less stimulating and more of just a masturbatory tool. As I read NoFap's website I thought back on those years of cock cranking/porn viewing. It was shocking to realize that I had spent 13 years of watching porn (nearly everyday). This introspection that NoFap foisted upon me led to a desire to challenge myself.
I have decided to partake in a NoFap Style Challenge designed by myself. I will not watch pornography for 90 days starting today on July 9th, 2016. This means that this challenge will end on October 7th, 2016. I have no conscious intention of curbing my masturbatory frequency during this challenge, however I am curious to see if it will change. Of course I will be writing updates on this blog, you readers will be keeping me accountable. Let the NoFap Style Challenge commence!
