Plan B... For Butt Plug

Josh Killoran

When talking about getting everything that you can out of an experience you have to consider all of your options. The same principle applies to sex and your holes are those options. Regardless of your gender the ass hole has to be considered in terms of sex. What better way to engage your anal option than to use a butt plug? Everyone should at least try a butt plug to elevate their orgasms. You can use it during sex or masturbation to increase your level of enjoyment by exciting nerves that are usually ignored. It has a unique design to safely accommodate all of your anal experimentation. It also has an interesting history which only adds to it's attraction and mystique.

History of the Butt Plug

Archaeologists have discovered that the butt plug has been around for far longer than previously thought. Much like the vibrator the butt plug was used in the 1800s as a medical device. It used to be thought that it was invented at that point. We were wrong, the history of anal stretching goes back much further than a couple hundred years. There were many archaeological digs done between 1995 and 2011 in Jiangsu Province of China. These digs were done to examine the tombs of Chinese nobility dating back 2000 years. The archaeologists found all the treasures that you would expect but one thing they found stood out from the crowd – the jade butt plugs. It would appear that even 2000 years ago people were searching to improve the orgasm. The fact that these plugs were made out of jade is more significant than you might think. At the time, in China, jade was incredibly valuable and not just because it was rare. Jade also had spiritual significance to the Chinese. This precious stone was thought to protect people from spiritual and physical decay. Chinese historians have come to the conclusion, partly because of jade's significance, that these butt plugs were placed inside the dead bodies of nobility to keep their chi balanced, even after death(1). Forgive me, but I'm just a tad skeptical about that hypothesis.

Human sexuality has always led us down twisting paths. Why would it be any different 2000 years ago? People didn't just start trying to intensify their orgasms, there have always been innovators. Archaeologists can certainly convince me that one of the things jade butt plugs were used for was balancing out chi. They can even convince me that the 'official' use of these butt plugs was to balance your chi. However, no one will ever be able to convince me that the only thing a butt plug was used for was spiritual realignment. Humans were not pure beings in the past, our ancestors were just as perverted as we are today. Of course people with time on their hands, like nobility, tried to make their orgasms more intense. They would eventually come to the conclusion that stimulating the nerves in their anus would intensify their orgasms. It wouldn't take that much trial and error because there are a limited number of holes. It would make more sense to me that the nobility that commissioned this flashy butt bling told the craftsmen that it would be used to fix their chi. Similar to how in the 1800s butt plugs were marketed as medical devices. They were used as that some of the time but also as a way to make cumming even more fun.

In a fashion very similar to vibrators the butt plug was once used as a medical device. In fact we used to think that butt plugs were invented in the 1800s because there was very little evidence that they existed before then. Before the jade butt plugs were discovered in China the closest thing to a butt plug we knew of was a torture method called figging. When you wanted to punish any naughty devils with figging you would carve a chunk of ginger root into a shape very similar to a butt plug. Once you have that spicy plug you ram into that devils ass hole so it continuously burns. Let us not forget that the anus has an incredible concentration of nerve endings. The next wave of butt plugs to pop up in history was as a medical device. Between 1893 and 1940 a medical tool named the rectal dilator became popular. The most famous of these dilators was known as Doctor Young's Rectal Dilator, these looked very similar to modern butt plugs. They came in a kit with dilators that graduate in size – from small to large. Doctor Young's dilators were made out of rubber and had to be put in with quite a bit of lube, the instructions wanted you to use Doctor Young's Piloment Lube or Vaseline. The function of the dilators relaxed and stretched the anus. They functioned in the same way as butt plugs. These Rectal dilators were used to treat constipation and hemorrhoids. In rare cases they were even used to treat insanity. Seeing as how rectal dilators are no longer used for medical reasons it's safe to say that they weren't very effective. Doctor Young wasn't the only one making rectal dilators. A company called Curvlite made glass ones. The Curvlite rectal dilators were being made until the 1950s(2). Like every medical device, or sex toy, the rectal dilator was adapted and upgraded.

Around the same time that the rectal dilator became popular another device got some shine off of it. The Rectal Rotor was an altered version of the rectal dilator. It had a similar design but was much longer. The Rectal Rotor also had vents along where lube was pushed out by twisting a knob at the base of the device. This rotor treated some of the same things that the dilator did, such as constipation and hemorrhoids. However, because the Rectal Rotor was longer it was also marketed to treat prostate issues. Now, we should keep in mind that it was only recently that companies were allowed to explicitly market products for adding to sexual pleasure. It is entirely possible that the people making rectal dilators and rectal rotors fully intended them to be used for sexual reasons but couldn't explicitly say that. Knowing full well that customers would figure it out(2). As you can see my suspicions regarding the dilators and rotors are very similar to the suspicions I have about the jade butt plugs. There is no such thing as sexual purity, the glory of perversion finds its way out of the shadows that society forces it into. If general society wants to push perversion into the darkness it will disguise itself and invade polite society before anyone realizes that it's there. That is because so called sexual perversion is just as much a part of human nature as eating delicious food. No one eats solely to fuel their body. Everyone wants food that tastes good. In the same vein, no one just has sex to satisfy a biological urge. Everyone wants to make sex feel as good as possible. However, many people don't want to admit that about themselves. Take the first step in reveling in glorious perversion by using a butt plug.

Design of the Butt Plug

Butt plugs are easy enough to use. Part of what makes them so easy to use is the design. While there are variations on certain butt plugs most designs have the same general attributes. Butt plugs will have a bulbous end which narrows into a neck. Then there is a flared base. These three parts of the design is what keeps a butt plug secure in your anus. The flared base keeps it from going all the way into your ass hole and getting lost. The bulb fills up your anal cavity and stimulates the nerves in there. While the neck stretches the sphincter and applies pressure to those nerve endings. It's because of this design that, unlike other toys, plugs can be kept in you for extended periods of time. Some people keep them in for their entire sex session, others pop them out after a couple minutes. Another bonus of butt plugs is that they aren't gender exclusive – anyone born with an ass hole can use them. During sex both partners could be plugged to elevate the experience. However, They will have to start small, proceed gently, and use plenty of lube. As with anything else, it is highly recommended that ass play neophytes start with a cute little plug and work their way up to one that will make them gape. In addition to that, be very gentle when you are inserting your new butt plug, you don't want to wind up with a flesh wound. For the same reason as being gentle you ought to use plenty of lube when using one. Water based lube is always the best choice for butt plug play, or any sex toy play. Certain butt plugs are resistant to silicone based lube, but the packaging on the toy would say that. If the packaging says nothing about lube just stick to the water based goo. This next bit might sound like common sense but butt plugs require serious cleaning. Really work that anti-bacterial soap into your little buddy. Providing that the plug is made from a non-porous material, like silicone or glass, it can also be disinfected. A common form of disinfection for sex toys is boiling them in water. Also it is never recommended to share your plug collection(3). Go ahead and be selfish with this one. Once you get into using butt plugs the effects will make you weak in the knees.

Butt plugs have one job, to intensify orgasms and they certainly accomplish that job. Butt plugs intensify the pleasures of an orgasm by stimulating the bundle of nerve endings in the anus, that are usually left untouched. However, even though these plugs feel so good it is recommended that you take breaks. That's because overuse of butt plugs has been shown to decrease blood flow to your colon(4). So, providing that you don't use a plug too much it can elevate vaginal sex to brand new heights(5). During an orgasm your anal muscles will involuntarily contract. By using a butt plug to apply pressure to those muscles you will intensify your orgasm. On the other hand, butt plugs can be used as an alternative to ass fucking. You get the feeling of a full anal cavity without the intense friction(6). Some people even use butt plugs to get ready for anal sex(5). It gets that ring piece used to stimulation. Butt plugs can be used as a key to unlock incredible waves of pleasure. Will you ride that wave?

If and when you decide to join the fellowship of the butt plug you will be taking part in a long history. That history exists for a reason... butt plugs get their job done, they make you feel good. Regardless of how they were marketed in the past butt plugs have always given people pleasure, that is largely down to it's design. That design is what stimulates the collection of nerve endings in the sphincter. Those nerves would otherwise go mostly ignored. We all know that getting the most out of sex is done by experimenting with parts of our bodies that we haven't engaged yet. Everyone should at least try a butt plug to get the most out of sex. Butt plugs for one and all.
